Call to Action - Taxation on Camp Meals
This could have impact for all CA Camps!
On Wednesday, February 24 th the State Board of Equalization will be taking up the case of Young Life’s Woodleaf Camp located in Challenge, California, on the matter of taxing the meals they serve at camp. Camps, in general, have been exempt from paying taxes on meals under an education exemption and an opinion rendered by the Board’s legal counsel in 1967.

San Mateo Police Department salvage opportunity
The City of San Mateo is providing camps in NorCal the opportunity for a chance to do some final salvage at it's old Police Station. There has been much salvaging already, but there's still a lot left for camps who always seem to be in the need for filing cabinets for arts & crafts storage (or maybe even files!), shelves, cabinets, or a plethora of items to stock the maintenance shed. Go to this website to view pictures of many of the items still available: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heathersails/sets/72157623373233854/
There are two scheduled salvage days, Friday, February 19 and Monday, February 22. Based on sign ups, both days can start as early as 7:00am and will end by 5pm. Your staff/volunteers will be required to sign a liability waiver and will provide all tools, labor and vehicles to remove and haul items, come prepared.
If you are interested, contact Heather Stewart at hstewart@cityofsanmateo.org or (650) 522-7228 to schedule which day, location and directions provided upon confirmation. A confirmation will be required for access to the site.

Could your organization use a team of hardworking young people dedicated to improving communities like yours? The NCCC Pacific Region Campus deploys teams to serve on projects lasting an average of 6-8 weeks (although shorter time frames may be available). Teams are available during four project rounds (see table below); project round start and end dates listed are subject to change, and proposed projects need not fill the entire round. Assignment of teams to projects is contingent on the availability of sufficient funds for our program and the availability of teams.
Who Can Apply? Nonprofit and faith-based organizations, government entities (federal, state, and local), public and private schools and universities, and Native American Tribal Councils.
We are especially interested in organizations working on disaster-related projects. Any organization working on prevention, mitigation, relief or recovery efforts will be given priority.
